The reason behind its exorbitant price is the fact that Palmer wore it when he won his master title in 1958 and Palmer’s victory at that time was considered as controversial.
Arnold Daniel Palmer is an American professional golfer who is considered as one of the greatest and most charismatic golfers in the history of sport. He won many events on the PGA Tour and circuit which is known as PGA Tour Champions. He was nicknamed The King because he was one of the most popular golf stars and was seen as a pioneer, the first superstar in the sport television era which began in 1950s.
In a career span more than six decades, he won 62 PGA Tour titles from 1955 to 1973. He also won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998, and was one of 13 people who were inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.
He passed away at 87 years old, on September 25, 2016 at the University of Pittsburg Medical Center while awaiting heart surgery. It was his death that made Palmer’s memorabilia much sought after.
